Developing your film.
The chemicals you will be using are fairly safe if you take reasonable care. However, be aware that some developers are highly corrosive. AND they WILL stain your clothes.
Step One.
Mix the developer. See here. You will need 300ml (cc)of mixed developer per film. Have 300ml (cc) of mixed fixer per film ready also. Your teacher will have this ready for you.
Step Two.
Start the clock. See here for times. Pour in your developer as quickly as possible. Put on the cap and run your thumbs around the edge to seal. Again do this as quickly as possible. Once the developer starts being poured in your film is developing if you are too slow your film will not develop evenly. Tap the tank gently to dislodge air bubbles on the film.
Step Three.
Invert your tank continuously for the remander of the first minute. Tap the tank gently to dislodge air bubbles on the film.
Step Four.
At the 2 minute mark and every minute after - invert the tank twice, twist the tank a half turn and invert the tank twice. Tap gently. Continue this every minute until the development time is completed.
Step Five.
At the end of the time - pour the developer down the sink. Rinse the film either with Stop Bath or water - hold the hose down the centre column. After two minutes pour Stop Bath back in its container or drain the water from the tank.
Step Six.
Pour in 300ml per film of Fixer. Repeat agaitation as per developer. After 2-5 minutes depending age of fixer and temperature - return the fixer to the container.
Step Seven.
Wash your film for at least 10 minutes.
Step Eight.
Remove the film from the tank and reel.
Step Nine.
GENTLY run the squeegy down the film ONCE to remove the majority of the water. Don't repeat as you may scratch the film.
Step Ten.
Hang your film up to dry.
Step Eleven.
Put everything back where you found it!
Step Twelve.
Collect your film, cut into six frame strips and place in Negative sleeves. Avoid leaving your negatives out as they will get dusty and may get scratched.
